## Context
When an object is created via the metadata API, `createOneObject`
creates its side-effect entities (INDEX view + viewFields, indexes,
navigation menu item, "go to" command menu item, record-page fields
view, page layout/tabs/widgets) across **three separate
`validateBuildAndRunWorkspaceMigration` calls**, purely because the
protection behavior (mutations → overrides, delete → deactivate, reset →
reactivate) was keyed on *"owned by the standard app"*, forcing the side
effects into batches with different application owners. This
misrepresents ownership and breaks atomicity.
This PR separates two orthogonal concepts:
- **Ownership** (`applicationId`), the true owner: the caller's
application (the workspace custom app today, 3rd-party apps later).
- **Protection** (`isSystemSideEffect`), the row was generated by the
system, so user mutations route to overrides, deletion becomes
deactivation, and reset restores defaults.
Once side effects are re-owned to the caller, the old `applicationId ===
standardApp` check can no longer tell an original side-effect row from a
user-added one so a dedicated `isSystemSideEffect` flag carries the
protection instead.
This is **PR 1 of 2** (forward-only). It makes newly created objects and
fields correct; existing workspaces are handled by a follow-up backfill
(see *Out of scope*).
## What this PR does
- **`isSystemSideEffect` column** on the 8 affected entities (`view`,
`viewField`, `indexMetadata`, `commandMenuItem`, `pageLayout`,
`pageLayoutTab`, `pageLayoutWidget`, `fieldMetadata`), with
`@WasIntroducedInUpgrade` + an entry in the flat-entity property
configuration (`toCompare: true`, read-only).
- **Single atomic migration in `createOneObject`**: the three
`validateBuildAndRunWorkspaceMigration` calls are merged into one, owned
by the caller (`resolvedOwnerFlatApplication`) and the record-page
view/fields, page layout, and navigation command item are re-owned to
the caller and flagged `isSystemSideEffect: true`.
`buildNavigationFlatCommandMenuItem` is parameterized with
`applicationUniversalIdentifier` (no longer hardcoded to the standard
app).
- **Field-creation side effects** (`createManyFields`/`createOneField`
already run as a single caller-owned migration, so no re-ownership/merge
was needed): the auto-created viewField is flagged `isSystemSideEffect:
true`, and a new field now also propagates to the object's **INDEX/table
view** (added there as a **hidden** column, `isVisible: false`) in
addition to
the record-page FIELDS widget. The INDEX view is targeted directly by
`key = INDEX` (it is not a page-layout widget), de-duplicated per
`(viewId, fieldMetadataUniversalIdentifier)` to respect the per-view
unique index.
The unique-field index is likewise flagged the inverse relation field
stays unflagged (`isSystem: false`).
- **Protection predicate** extended: `isCallerOverridingEntity` and the
removal/reset split strategies now treat `isSystemSideEffect` rows as
protected even when caller-owned (route to
overrides / deactivate / reset) and the page-layout-reset guards allow
resetting flagged entities.
- **Standard compute maps** set the flag consistently so a re-sync
produces no diff (standard-object side effects stay `false`; per-object
nav command items and custom-object base fields are `true`).
- **Read-only GraphQL exposure** of `isSystemSideEffect` on the view /
view-field / page-layout / tab / widget / command-menu-item DTOs (not
exposed on create/update inputs). => Todo: needs to take this new flag
into account. This is fine for now because isSystem remains on
object/field.
- **Fast instance command** (`2-14`) adding the 8 columns (`NOT NULL
DEFAULT false`).
## Scope decisions
- **`pageLayout` is not an `OverridableEntity`**, its own row has
nothing user-overridable (all customization lives on tabs/widgets). It's
dual-purpose (`RECORD_PAGE` side-effect vs. user `DASHBOARD`), so it
gets `isSystemSideEffect` for protection only, no `overrides` jsonb.
- **`navigationMenuItem` is out of scope.**: Those are side effects only
for the metadata API and not marked as "system" (they can be
deleted/updated etc...)
- **`viewFieldGroup` is not a side effect**, it's only created via the
explicit view-field-group API, never by object/field creation, so it
gets no flag.
## Out of scope (follow-ups)
**PR 2** — slow per-workspace backfill (re-own + flag existing side
effects, recreate missing ones) and deterministic v5 identifiers for
base fields / pageLayout / tab.

Fixes https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/issues/21043
## Context
Newly created fields were never added to FIELDS widgets, regardless of
the "Set fields created in the future as visible" toggle. The widget's
newFieldDefaultVisibility was null on widgets that never explicitly set
it (it was never populated at creation), so the backend skipped them and
no view field was created.
## Implementation
Keep newFieldDefaultVisibility nullable with false (not visible) as the
behavior when not provided.
The FE now reflects that properly and shows "un-toggled" when it's null
(iso with BE behavior).
The fix also ensures the value is explicitly set to true wherever it
should be:
- Set newFieldDefaultVisibility: true at every FIELDS widget creation
path (backend default record-page layout, frontend
createDefaultFieldsWidget + useTemporaryFieldsConfiguration);
- Added a 2-9 workspace upgrade command that backfills true onto
existing standard FIELDS widgets where the value is null.
## Summary
- Fixes a bug where removing an option from a MULTI_SELECT field fails
with `invalid input value for enum` when existing records contain the
removed value alongside surviving values.
- The root cause was the `ELSE` branch in `updateArrayEnum` which tried
to cast removed enum values (e.g. `DISTRIBUTOR`) to the new enum type
that no longer includes them.
- The fix replaces the `ELSE` cast with a NULL-producing implicit CASE
default and uses `array_agg(...) FILTER (WHERE mapped_value IS NOT
NULL)` to silently strip removed values from existing arrays.
### Before (bug)
```sql
-- ELSE branch tries to cast removed value to new enum → crash
CASE unnest_value::text
WHEN 'IMPL' THEN 'IMPL'::new_enum
WHEN 'APP' THEN 'APP'::new_enum
ELSE unnest_value::text::new_enum -- 'DISTRIBUTOR' fails here
END
```
### After (fix)
```sql
-- No ELSE: removed values produce NULL, filtered out by array_agg
SELECT array_agg(mapped_value) FILTER (WHERE mapped_value IS NOT NULL)
FROM (
SELECT CASE unnest_value::text
WHEN 'IMPL' THEN 'IMPL'::new_enum
WHEN 'APP' THEN 'APP'::new_enum
END AS mapped_value
FROM unnest(old_column) AS unnest_value
) enum_mapping
# What this PR does
Overall naming `universal` versus `flat` is not always the most updated
and so on
Will make a big cleaning tour after I've finished the whole migration
Migrating all `view` and ( filter fields etc ) `field` `object` `index`
to the universal pattern on all `services`, `builder` and `runner`
levels
## Universal and flat optimistic tooling
`addUniversalFlatEntityToUniversalFlatEntityAndRelatedEntityMapsThroughMutationOrThrow`
and its delete counterpart maintain the consistency of
`UniversalFlatEntityMaps` when an entity is created or removed. Beyond
inserting/removing the entity from its own maps, they walk through
`ALL_UNIVERSAL_METADATA_RELATIONS` to update the **aggregator arrays**
on related parent entities — the add appends the new entity's
`universalIdentifier` to the parent's aggregator (e.g. a new viewField's
identifier gets appended to its parent view's
`viewFieldUniversalIdentifiers`), and the delete filters it out. This
keeps the maps in sync so that diff computations and relation lookups
remain accurate throughout the migration building process.
## ALL_UNIVERSAL_METADATA_RELATIONS
`ALL_UNIVERSAL_METADATA_RELATIONS` is the universal counterpart of
`ALL_METADATA_RELATIONS`. It maps each metadata entity to its
many-to-one and one-to-many relations using universal foreign keys
(`*UniversalIdentifier`) instead of database IDs (`*Id`). This allows
migration actions to reference related entities in a workspace-agnostic
way. Relations that are workspace-specific (e.g. `workspace`,
`dataSource`, `userWorkspace`) are set to `null` and skipped during
resolution.
## `workspaceMigrationCreateIdEnrichment`
Reserved to API metadata ( will be able to validate at app installation
lvl )
- Workspace migration `create` actions now carry an optional `id` (and
`fieldIdByUniversalIdentifier` for object/field actions) so that
caller-provided IDs flow through the entire build-validate-run pipeline.
- New `enrichCreateWorkspaceMigrationActionsWithIds` utility resolves
`universalIdentifier → id` mappings after the builder runs and injects
them into the migration actions before the runner persists entities.
- Runner action handlers use the provided IDs instead of generating new
UUIDs, enabling deterministic entity creation for synchronization
workflows.
## `resolveUniversalUpdateRelationIdentifiersToIds`
`resolveUniversalUpdateRelationIdentifiersToIds` converts universal
identifiers (workspace-agnostic, stable keys) in a migration update
payload into concrete database UUIDs, so the update can be applied to a
specific workspace.
It iterates over the many-to-one relations defined in
`ALL_UNIVERSAL_METADATA_RELATIONS` for the given entity type, replaces
each `*UniversalIdentifier` property with its corresponding `*Id` by
looking up the target entity in `allFlatEntityMaps`, and throws if a
non-null identifier can't be resolved.
Used by all `update` action handlers in
`transpileUniversalActionToFlatAction`, avoiding duplicated resolution
logic across handlers.
## What this PR does not
- Migrating twenty-standard declaration to universal
- Migrating all the inputs transpilers to universal
- Migrating all metadata to be fully universal ( we still need to
de-scope the type of all of them and refactor their validator very close
)
# Introduction
In this PR we're:
- Refactoring the workspace migration action type introducing grain over
metadata and operation type ( for example operation `create` and
metadata `field` )
- Thanks to above point we can now factorize the runner optimistic
rendering out of each runner actions-handler file using the existing
into the generic one ( -3200 lines of code here )
- Still thanks to action type refactor we're able to dynamically compose
the response error type only send data when there's here. No more static
counter and static summary error message. This way we won't have to re
run snapshot every time we add a new entity to the engine ( huge
snapshot diff here )
## Noticeable points:
- We introduce an index update action to avoid any complex typing for
not having one or a tuple of actions instead. Now the drop and insert
logic is directly inferred from the update action handler instead of
being two action ( delete index and create index )
## TODO
- [x] Define base actions types
- [x] Migrate all actions to action type and metadata name pattern (
base actions )
- [x] Refactor flat entity validation type to embed metadata name
- [x] Refactor optimistic rendering within runner
- [x] Refactor legacy cache invalidation switch
- [x] Refactor response error format ( dynamic counter again + no empty
entries )
- [x] Try factorizing and removing redundant nor unused type declaration
in metadata actions type intermediary files
- [x] Adapt front to new response error format
## Remarks
- ~~Should create an issue for generic replace flat entity in related
flat entity maps~~ overkill
- Should create an issue for oneToMany foreignKey being nullable not
always cascade delete optimistic rendering edge case to either docs or
fix it in delete flat entity and related entity ( re-code the pg
cascading behavior )
- We could also factorize the builder to only implement validators and
not the intermediary file
## Summary
This PR introduces a Skills system for AI agents, inspired by the [Agent
Skills specification](https://agentskills.io/specification).
## Changes
### Backend
- **SkillEntity**: New database entity with migration for storing skills
- **V2 Sync Mechanism**: Implemented FlatSkill, builders, validators,
and action handlers following the v2 flat entity pattern
- **Standard Skills**: Pre-defined skills (workflow-building,
data-manipulation, dashboard-building, metadata-building, research,
code-interpreter, xlsx, pdf, docx, pptx)
- **GraphQL API**: CRUD operations for skills with proper guards and
permissions
- **Workspace Cache**: Integrated skills into the workspace cache system
### Frontend
- **Skills Table**: Searchable table in AI settings showing all skills
- **Skill Form**: Create/edit page with Label (primary), Description,
and Content (markdown editor)
- **API Name**: Following existing patterns, name is derived from label
with advanced settings toggle for custom API names
- **Standard vs Custom**: Standard skills are read-only, custom skills
can be edited/deleted
## Key Design Decisions
- Skills are stored in the database (Salesforce-like approach) rather
than files
- Name is derived from Label by default (isLabelSyncedWithName pattern)
- Skills reference functions/files via @ mentions in markdown content
rather than explicit relations
- Standard skills are synced from code, custom skills are created via UI
## Screenshots
Skills table and form UI follow existing settings patterns.
## Testing
- [x] Lint passes
- [x] Typecheck passes
- [ ] CI tests
# Introduction
Related to https://github.com/twentyhq/core-team-issues/issues/1995
This PR introduces the basis of the `twentyStandard` application as code
on demand, it's highly tied to `ids` where it will becomes workspace
agnostic following the builder and runner `universalIdentifier` refactor
later.
The goal here to allow computing the `allFlatEntityMaps` `to` of the
`twentyStandard` application on a empty workspace ( workspace creation
). Allowing installing the twenty standard app through a workspace
migration instead of passing by the sync metadata
Nothing done will be run in production for the moment if it's not the
small validation refactor we've introduced
Please note that everything introduced here will be replaced at some
point by a twenty app instance when the twenty sdk is mature enough to
handle of the edge cases we need here
## How we've proceeded
We've been iterating over every workspace entity both objects and their
fields, and transpiled them to flatEntity.
Being sure we migrate the defaultValue, settings and so on accordingly.
We've also compute all the ids in prior of the whole entities
computation so we don't face any hoisting issue.
## Current state
At the moment only handling all of the 29 standard objects and their
fields
Settings a unique universalIdentifier for all of them
Will come views, agent role targets and so on later
## `workspace:compute-twenty-standard-migration` command
This command allow generating a workspace migration that will result in
installing the twenty standard app in an empty workspace
It's temporary and aims to allow debugging for the moment we might not
keep it in the future as it is right now
It contains debug writeFileSync which is expected no worries greptile
## `LabelFieldMetadataIdentifierId`
Small refactor allowing defining the label identifier field metadata id
of a uuid field metadata type for system object, as some of our standard
object don't have a name field and don't aim to
Also please note that we might remove this build options later in the
sake of the currently installed universal identifier application that we
could compare with the deterministic twenty standard one
## `runFlatFieldMetadataValidators`
Deprecated this pattern which was redundant and not v2 friendly pattern
## Current errors that will address in upcoming PR
Current standard objects and fields metadata does not pass the
validation that we have in place, as historically the sync metadata
would directly consume the repositories and would just ignore the
validation. This is about to change.
Will handle the below errors in dedicated PRs as they will required
upgrade commands in order to migrate the data, or will handle that from
the sync metadata instead still to be determined but nothing critical
here
- camel case field metadata name
- options label invalid format
# Introduction
Migrating `pageLayoutTab` to the v2 engine
- Types and constants
- Builder and validate
- Runner
Introduced a new `StrictSyncableEntity` that enforces that
`universalIdentifier` and `applicationId` are defined
As these entities are brand new we could enforce this rule already
This still requires a migration command to associate the existing
entities to custom workspace application instance and define
universalIdentifier
Handled retro-comp of the migration through a migration as upgrade
command fallback
# Introduction
Adding view-group to core engine v2
Following https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pull/15010 ( same pattern )
## What's done
- Created flat-view-group
- flat view group runner
- flat view group builder
- create view group service v2 and input transpilers
- refactor the existing view group resolver to fix standard (
BREAKING_CHANGE on graphql api update especially ) REST stays the same
- refactored the front to consume the mutations autogenerated
# Introduction
Migrating `viewFilter` to v2 in order to migrate later the field update
side effect on view to v2 too
## What's done
## New generic tools
### Compare two flat entity
Introducing a new util to compare two flat entity, it's strictly typed
and will be added to the generic builder in a following PR
This will ease flat entity addition as won't required to create a
specific abstraction for comparison
Generic builder will expect specific constant: properties to compare and
properties to stringify
### Transform flat entity for comparison
Forked and refactor the initial existing method for flat entity business
scope and type safety
## Coverage
Migrated existing integration tests to fit new contract API
This PR does not add strong coverage on validation exceptions
Deadlines are too short
close https://github.com/twentyhq/core-team-issues/issues/1666
## Context
Add routes to migration V2
- Resolvers
- Service v2
- Builder
- Validator
- Action runner
Next PR: Add to twenty-cli to sync routes with serverless
# Introduction
Extracting the legacy fields build and dispatch out of the object one to
follow the generic flat entity build, also update caches entries for
object
## Main tasks
- flat field map cache
- flat field builder
- refactored the dispatch matrix to return flat entity maps instead of
flat entity arrays
- orchestrator aggregator
- removing legacy code
- making universal identifier aka standardId of standard field for
custom object deterministically dynamic
- perfs debug logs for v2
## TODO
- [x] Refactor the generic entity builder to be dependency flat maps in
order to main foreign keys list in flat parent
- [x] Refactor the flat object metadata to contain the array of related
fields and avoid costy find object fields
- [ ] Improve the create field handler to handle multiple field at once
- [ ] Refactor the dispatch to embbed the comparison
- [ ] Improve perf by extracting from elements out of existing
- [ ] Fix the labelIdentifierId validators on object before field
creation ( integ tests are in failing mode )
## Debug logs snippet
```ts

As you can see cache invalidation is way to long, we could replace the
cache by the optimistic in the end
## Introduction

There's a huge test bundle in the latest shard that we could split up
## Notes
- Set as failing morph relation field rename as for the moment we do not
handle relation field mutation
- fixed the object update and creation validation adding label
identifier field metadata id checks
- and more
Some integrations tests are still on the v1 ( they have before and after
all disabling and re-enabling the flat ) but mainly we now have more
coverage on the v2 than the v1.
Mainly related records, uniqueness have to be migrated the v2 and so
tests too
## Introduction
https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pull/14363
In this PR we're creating builder and runner for index metadata
Removing its previous integration within object builder
## Next:
- implem index impact on field and object metadata api
- Add integration testing coverage add integration test on index
- Implement uniqueness toggle in field metadata api
- add integration test on uniqueness

# Introduction
Initially this PR was about introducing integration coverage for view
field v2 tests
But feature itself wasn't finished, so ended up in a TDD style
devlopment
## The new orchestrator
Orchestrator will organize each flat entity diffing inferring either
validation errors or actions sequentially.
A new builder has been introduced when extended requires to define flat
entity validation utils and action generation for `delete` `update`
`create` operations. It's highly typed using generics
## View field integration testing
Introduce coverage on failing basic tests cases for view field
operations, successfull create is also covered. We could still add more
coverage, will be done later in following PRs
## Remaining tasks for upcoming PRs:
- [ ] rename builder methods names to add generate action in their names
- [x] refactor view validation to handle field and view uniqueness index
combination
- [ ] implem strict update validator on view and view field
- [ ] dynamic cache invalidation post run
- [ ] Add coverage to successful and failing view field operations
- [ ] error formatting summary computation
- [ ] extract types out of the workspace entity builder
## Some vision
Currently flat field metadata maps is nested in the flat object metadata
maps, making its build nested too. ( not extending the new generic
builder )
We will refactor this part for both to be stored extra flat such as the
other existing flat entities.
It will require a small refactor to the generic builder that will not
only have impact on the currently built flat entity optimistic cache but
to an other one ( for example when building a create object action it
will also have an impact flat field maps )
# Introduction
Migrating and improving performances of field enum integrations tests
success and failing tests cases to be using the new v2 api
## Discovered issue
When deleting an object in v1 it will leave related enums until the
object is re-created
Something not done anymore within the create in v2 but in the delete
operation
We should implem an upgrade command to remove such relicas
## Bugs
- Update/create default value multi select runner wrong sql query -> FIX
- Update default value multi select regression, we should allow option
without an id to be inserted -> FIX
- default value compare dynamic json stringify convertion or not in
compare tools for object and fields
# Introduction
From the moment replaced the FieldMetadataInterface definition to:
```ts
import { FieldMetadataType } from 'twenty-shared/types';
import { FieldMetadataEntity } from 'src/engine/metadata-modules/field-metadata/field-metadata.entity';
export type FieldMetadataInterface<
T extends FieldMetadataType = FieldMetadataType,
> = FieldMetadataEntity<T>;
```
After this PR merge will create a new one removing the type and
replacing it to `FieldMetadataEntity`.
Did not renamed it here to avoid conflicts on naming + type issues fixs
within the same PR
## Field metadata entity RELATION or MORPH
Relations fields cannot be null for those field metadata entity instance
anymore, but are never for the others see
`packages/twenty-server/src/engine/metadata-modules/field-metadata/types/field-metadata-entity-test.type.ts`
( introduced TypeScript tests )
## Concerns
- TS_VECTOR is the most at risk with the `generatedType` and
`asExpression` removal from interface
## What's next
- `FielMetadataInterface` removal and rename ( see introduction )
- Depcrecating `ObjectMetadataInterface`
- Refactor `FieldMetadataEntity` optional fiels to be nullable only
- TO DIG `never` occurences on settings, defaultValue etc
- Some interfaces will be replaced by the `FlatFieldMetadata` when
deprecating the current sync and comparators tools
In the BE we throw custom errors with precise error codes (e.g.
"LABEL_ALREADY_EXISTS") before catching them in filters and rethrowing
BaseGraphQLErrors (standard errors such as NotFoundError, UserInputError
etc.).
In the FE we were grouping sentries based on the error codes but we were
actually grouping by very broad codes such as "NOT_FOUND" or
"BAD_USER_INPUT", extracted from the BaseGraphQLErrors.
To fix that, we update the BaseGraphQLError constructor api to allow to
pass on the CustomError directly and retrieve from it the original code
and store it in existing property `subCode` that we will use in the FE
to send errors to sentry.
This new api also eases usage of `userFriendlyMessage` that is passed on
to the api response and therefore to the FE when CustomError is passed
on directly to the BaseGraphQLError constructor.
Currently, when a server query or mutation from the front-end fails, the
error message defined server-side is displayed in a snackbar in the
front-end.
These error messages usually contain technical details that don't belong
to the user interface, such as "ObjectMetadataCollection not found" or
"invalid ENUM value for ...".
**BE**
In addition to the original error message that is still needed (for the
request response, debugging, sentry monitoring etc.), we add a
`displayedErrorMessage` that will be used in the snackbars. It's only
relevant to add it for the messages that will reach the FE (ie. not in
jobs or in rest api for instance) and if it can help the user sort out /
fix things (ie. we do add displayedErrorMessage for "Cannot create
multiple draft versions for the same workflow" or "Cannot delete
[field], please update the label identifier field first", but not
"Object metadata does not exist"), even if in practice in the FE users
should not be able to perform an action that will not work (ie should
not be able to save creation of multiple draft versions of the same
workflows).
**FE**
To ease the usage we replaced enqueueSnackBar with enqueueErrorSnackBar
and enqueueSuccessSnackBar with an api that only requires to pass on the
error.
If no displayedErrorMessage is specified then the default error message
is `An error occured.`
