Let the instance upgrade version reach releases without instance commands (#23552)
Fixes the CI failure on #23520: An upgrade version sequence has to at least contain one instance or one workspace command Workspaces commands do not run for the instance level and aren't triggered automatically Explaining this PR need <img width="1396" height="954" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/5455d05b-b286-482a-8914-808f55f3b0bf" /> ``` Upload failed: App requires Twenty server >=2.26.0 but this server is 2.25.0. ``` The server really is 2.26 (`TWENTY_CURRENT_VERSION = '2.26.0'`), but `validateServerCompatibility` resolves the instance version through `UpgradeMigrationService.getInferredVersion()`, which reads the last row in `core.upgradeMigration` with `workspaceId IS NULL AND isInitial = false` and takes the version prefix off its name. Instance commands are the only ones that write a `workspaceId`-null row, and `2-26/` ships none (only three workspace commands), so the highest instance command in the tree is still `2-25-instance-command-fast-1785230296000-add-is-hidden-to-agent-message`. A fully migrated 2.26 server infers 2.25.0, and any app declaring `engines.twenty: ">=2.26.0"` is unpublishable. Two defects, both of which `getWorkspaceCompletedVersion` already avoids: - **Not sequence-aware.** The workspace path walks the registered sequence and only credits a version once the cursor sits on that version's last step. The instance path just reads the cursor's prefix, so a version contributing zero instance commands is unreachable. - **Not status-aware.** `getLastAttemptedInstanceCommand` filters on `attempt = MAX(attempt)` but not on status, so a *failed* 2.25 command still made the server report 2.25.0. ## What changed `UpgradeStatusService` gains `getInstanceCompletedVersion()`, the instance-scope mirror of `getWorkspaceCompletedVersion`. It walks the sequence filtered to instance steps, requires the cursor to sit on the last instance step of its version *and* be `completed`, then advances through any later supported version that declares no instance command at all. The version-skipping rule is the part that unblocks 2.26: a release with no instance-level work has nothing for the cursor to land on, so it is reached as soon as the last version that does have instance commands is done. A version whose instance command exists but has not run still holds the cursor back. - `validateServerCompatibility` calls the new method; `UpgradeMigrationService` is no longer a dependency of `ApplicationVersionValidationService`. - `getInstanceStatus` reports it as `inferredVersion`, so the upgrade gauge metric and `upgrade:status` CLI stop showing 2.25.0 on a 2.26 server. - `getInferredVersion` is deleted. Its one remaining caller passed a command name, which is just `extractVersionFromCommandName`. - Cursor resolution is extracted to `resolve-completed-version-from-cursor.util`, now shared by both scopes; the skip rule lives in `advance-through-versions-without-instance-commands.util`. The asymmetry between the two scopes is intentional and stays: instance commands record a row per workspace as well, so workspace cursors land on both command kinds and never had this gap. ## Testing - `npx nx typecheck twenty-server` clean, `npx nx lint:diff-with-main twenty-server` clean. - 294 unit tests pass across the upgrade and application modules, including 7 new ones for `getInstanceCompletedVersion`. Two pin the boundary: a trailing workspace-only version is reached, a trailing version whose instance command has not run is not. - The fixture in `upgrade-status.service.spec.ts` used `1.21.0`/`1.22.0`/`1.23.0`, which are real entries in `TWENTY_PREVIOUS_VERSIONS`. With the skip rule in place that sequence read as "every version from 2.0 onward has no instance commands" and walked to the end, so the fixture is renumbered to `0.2x.0` to keep those tests on cursor resolution alone. - `failing-app-installation-workspace-version.integration-spec.ts` already carried a comment describing this bug as a hazard it worked around. App installation workspace version check engines constraint (#22613)
## What
Makes the app-installation version gate **workspace-scoped**. App
installation now validates a manifest's `engines.twenty` requirement
against the version the **target workspace has actually finished
upgrading to**, instead of the instance/server's inferred version.
## Why
The server binary and a given workspace's migration state can diverge.
In a multi-workspace deployment the instance can already report version
`X` while an individual workspace still hasn't completed its
workspace-scoped upgrade commands for `X` (it's mid-upgrade or a
migration failed). Gating on the instance version let an app that
requires `X` install into a workspace whose schema/metadata is
effectively still at `X-1`, which can break the app. The requirement
should be checked against what the *workspace* has completed, not what
the server reports.
## How
- **`UpgradeStatusService.getWorkspaceCompletedVersion(workspaceId)`**
(new): resolves the last fully-completed upgrade version for a workspace
by reading its upgrade cursor and walking the upgrade sequence:
- Returns the cursor's version when the cursor sits on the **last step
of its version segment** and its status is `completed`.
- Otherwise walks backwards to the previous fully-completed version
segment.
- Returns `null` when the cursor is missing, not found in the sequence,
or otherwise uninterpretable.
- **`ApplicationVersionValidationService`**:
- Adds `validateWorkspaceCompatibility({ requiredServerVersion,
workspaceId })`.
- Extracts the shared semver logic into a private
`validateVersionAgainstRange({ version, requiredVersionRange, scope })`
and makes error messages scope-aware (workspace vs. instance).
`validateServerCompatibility` is preserved and now delegates to it.
- New failure reason `INVALID_WORKSPACE_VERSION`.
- **`ApplicationInstallService`** now calls
`validateWorkspaceCompatibility` with the `workspaceId` instead of
`validateServerCompatibility`.
- **Exception plumbing**: new
`ApplicationExceptionCode.INVALID_WORKSPACE_VERSION`, surfaced as a
`UserInputError` (`BAD_USER_INPUT`) with a user-friendly message ("This
workspace's upgrade state could not be determined…"). The
tarball/registration path maps it onto the existing
`INVALID_SERVER_VERSION` registration code.
## Notes
- **Publishing (app registration) is intentionally not
workspace-gated.** The tarball/registration path
(`ApplicationTarballService`) still uses the instance-level
`validateServerCompatibility` check, not the new workspace-scoped one.
Publishing an app is not tied to any particular workspace's upgrade
state, so there is no workspace version to check at that point — the
workspace-completed-version gate only applies when installing an app
into a specific workspace.
## Testing
- Unit tests for `ApplicationVersionValidationService`
(`validateServerCompatibility` + new `validateWorkspaceCompatibility`)
covering: no requirement, invalid semver range, satisfied/unsatisfied
ranges, and the uninterpretable-cursor case.
- Unit tests for `UpgradeStatusService.getWorkspaceCompletedVersion`
against a three-segment mock upgrade sequence (multi-command version,
instance-only version, workspace-terminated version).
- New integration suite
`failing-app-installation-workspace-version.integration-spec.ts` (+
snapshots) exercising the real install flow: rejects installation when
the workspace hasn't completed the required version, and when the
workspace's upgrade cursor can't be interpreted. Adds a
`create-app-tarball.util.ts` test helper.

test(upgrade): assert sequence-runner error structurally instead of snapshot (#20213)
## Summary The integration test `should throw when cursor command is not found in the sequence` in `failing-sequence-runner.integration-spec.ts` used `toThrowErrorMatchingSnapshot()`. The captured snapshot included the literal `TWENTY_CROSS_UPGRADE_SUPPORTED_VERSIONS` list from `upgrade-sequence-reader.service.ts`, which grows by one entry on every Twenty release. As a result, the snapshot drifted and broke whenever a new instance command landed (noticed during PR #20181), creating recurring "snapshot needs updating" churn with no real signal value. This PR replaces the snapshot assertion with a regex match on the structural part of the error message: ```ts ).rejects.toThrow(/Step "RemovedCommand" not found in upgrade sequence/); ``` The regex still catches the same class of regressions (the runner failing to surface a missing-step error) without pinning the version list. [breaking, deploy server first] fix(ai-chat): persist providerExecuted flag on tool parts (#20030)
## Summary Fixes Sentry errors of the form: > \`messages.3: \`tool_use\` ids were found without \`tool_result\` blocks immediately after: srvtoolu_…. Each \`tool_use\` block must have a corresponding \`tool_result\` block in the next message.\` ### Root cause When the model invokes a **provider-hosted tool** (e.g. Anthropic's native \`web_search\` — note the \`srvtoolu_\` ID prefix), the AI SDK marks the resulting \`UIMessagePart\` with \`providerExecuted: true\`. \`convertToModelMessages\` uses that flag to emit the tool_use/tool_result pair *inside the same assistant message* — the format Anthropic requires for server-side tools. Our \`AgentMessagePart\` persistence was dropping \`providerExecuted\` on the way to the DB (and re-hydration didn't know to set it). On the next turn, \`convertToModelMessages\` treated the rehydrated part as a client-side tool call, splitting it into \`assistant(tool_use)\` + \`user(tool_result)\` — which Anthropic then rejects with the error above. ### Fix - Add nullable \`providerExecuted BOOLEAN\` column on \`core.agentMessagePart\` via a fast instance command. - Surface the field on \`AgentMessagePartDTO\` (GraphQL). - Preserve it through \`mapUIMessagePartsToDBParts\` (server) and both \`mapDBPartToUIMessagePart\` mappers (server + frontend). - Include it in \`GET_CHAT_MESSAGES\` and \`GET_AGENT_TURNS\` selections. - Regenerate \`generated-metadata/graphql.ts\`. ### Backwards compatibility Existing rows have \`NULL providerExecuted\` and round-trip as the omitted flag — which is exactly the pre-fix behaviour for tool parts that were never provider-executed. [Upgrade] Fix workspace creation cursor (#19701)
## Summary ### Problem The upgrade migration system required new workspaces to always start from a workspace command, which was too rigid. When the system was mid-upgrade within an instance command (IC) segment, workspace creation would fail or produce inconsistent state. ### Solution #### Workspace-scoped instance command rows Instance commands now write upgrade migration rows for **all active/suspended workspaces** alongside the global row. This means every workspace has a complete migration history, including instance command records. - `InstanceCommandRunnerService` reloads `activeOrSuspendedWorkspaceIds` immediately before writing records (both success and failure paths) to mitigate race conditions with concurrent workspace creation. - `recordUpgradeMigration` in `UpgradeMigrationService` accepts a discriminated union over `status`, handles `error: unknown` formatting internally, and writes global + workspace rows in batch. #### Flexible initial cursor for new workspaces `getInitialCursorForNewWorkspace` now accepts the last **attempted** (not just completed) instance command with its status: - If the IC is `completed` and the next step is a workspace segment → cursor is set to the last WC of that segment (existing behavior). - If the IC is `failed` or not the last of its segment → cursor is set to that IC itself, preserving its status. This allows workspaces to be created at any point during the upgrade lifecycle, including mid-IC-segment and after IC failure. #### Relaxed workspace segment validation `validateWorkspaceCursorsAreInWorkspaceSegment` accepts workspaces whose cursor is: 1. Within the current workspace segment, OR 2. At the immediately preceding instance command with `completed` status (handles the `-w` single-workspace upgrade scenario). Workspaces with cursors in a previous segment, ahead of the current segment, or at a preceding IC with `failed` status are rejected. ### Test plan created empty workspaces to allow testing upgrade with several active workspaces |
